What is Auditing?

Auditing is reviewing business management systems and the business processes and checking compliance to various ‘criteria’, such as legislation, written procedures and standards.

In some cases compliance is mandatory particularly if the ‘criteria’ is government legislation. 

The outcome is confirmation that the system conforms to the audit criteria or that it requires improvement.

 Audits can be performed on the business management system either in total or in part. When a total audit is performed it is usually called a Management Audit. When specific areas of the system are audited the audit is often titled according to which part of the system is being reviewed.
